Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just finished with a Holter monitor & the results showed Rare supraventricular ectopy (389 isolated premature atrial contractions, 12 atrial couplets). Nine episodes of SVT/ectopic atrial rhythm, fastest 3 beats at 172bpm, longest 9 beats with a mean rate of 87 bpm. Can you explain this so I understand?? Thanks
This means that you are having some spells of a fast heart beat that starts in the top part of your heart called the atriium.
While this is not great, it is not as serious as having irregular beats starting in the lower part of the heart, the ventricles.
It is good that it is just occurring in short spells not for prolonged periods of time, but your doctor may want to start you on a medication to prevent this irregular beating.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson, General & Family Physician
